The Consumer Confidence index released by the Conference Sentiment Board increased marginally to 45.4 in the month of September from 45.2 in August.

The consumer confidence in US remains at two year low. The reading in August declined sharply - lowest since April 2009 and remains largely unchanged in September.

This month in the survey the share of  households that said they found it difficult to find a job reached the highest level in almost three decades.

The confidence reading suggests that the consumers remain concerned about the employment and state of the economy. These factors point out that spending will remain subdued during the upcoming holiday season also.

Lynn Franco, Director of the Consumer Board's consumer research center in a statement said "Consumer expectations, which had plummeted in August, posted a marginal gain. However consumers expressed greater concern about their expected earnings, a sign that does not bode well for spending. In addition , consumers' assessment of current conditions declined for the fifth consecutive month, a sign that economic environment remains weak.

The US economy recorded an unemployment figure of 9.1% in the month of August and the concerns in Europe, also undermine the US attempt to avoid recession in the Economy.
